Q: Which products are impacted by the Citect SCADA 2016 brand migration?
A: The release of Citect SCADA 2016 (version 8.0) signifies the dissolution of our StruxureWare SCADA Expert Vijeo Citect and CitectSCADA dual brand strategy with the consolidation of both product offerings under our flagship SCADA brand, Citect SCADA. This branding migration does not affect our Historian offer, with CitectHistorian and Vijeo Historian continuing to be available under these dual brand identities.
Q: Does this brand migration impact the product functionality in any way?
A: Whilst you will notice changes to branding on our packaging and marketing materials, there are no changes to product functionality. However, those customers who choose to upgrade to Citect SCADA 2016 will notice a host of functionality enhancements and innovations that streamline the engineering experience and deliver a new era of engineering simplicity and efficiency.
Q: When will I need to switch to the Citect SCADA brand?
A: You will only need to migrate to the new brand when you choose to upgrade to Citect SCADA 2016. Until then, you will be able to keep using the Vijeo Citect product with no changes or impacts.
Q: Will I be able to upgrade my existing Vijeo Citect license to Citect SCADA 2016?
A: Vijeo Citect customers who are currently in Support and wish to upgrade to Citect SCADA 2016 will be able to seamlessly update their existing Vijeo Citect licenses to Citect SCADA 2016 via the license generator on the SCADA & MES Support website. It is important to note that the product component will not change when upgrading a license key, only the version number. For example, when upgrading Vijeo Citect 2015 (7.50) to Citect SCADA 2016 (8.00) the license key (product) will remain as Vijeo Citect but the version will change to 8.00, with the Citect SCADA 2016 runtime successfully detecting this key.
Q: How will this change impact the ordering process? Will Vijeo Citect part numbers continue to exist?
A: Measures have been put in place to ensure all active Vijeo Citect part numbers have a direct equivalent in Citect SCADA 2016, so it will be as seamless as ordering the Citect SCADA equivalent part. Effective July 30th 2017, all Vijeo Citect packaging (i.e. boxes and DVDs) will be discontinued with the equivalent packaging part numbers available in our Citect SCADA range thereafter. Specific announcements and communications will be made prior to the remaining Vijeo Citect license part numbers being de-commercialized.
Q: Will my Vijeo Citect project upgrade seamlessly in Citect SCADA 2016?
A: In version 7.30, changes were made to both Vijeo Citect and CitectSCADA to ensure they were fully aligned in terms of features, functionality and licensing with the anticipation that we would be consolidating both products into one. The brand migration has proven to be successful in the past and therefore we do not expect any upgrade issues related to the brand consolidation with Citect SCADA 2016. Please refer to the ‘Compatibility Matrix’ document published on the SCADA & MES Support website, as well as the software Installation Guide for specific information on product compatibility and upgrades.
Q: If I continue to use Vijeo Citect, what Support shall I expect into the future?
A: For customers with active Support agreements in place, full Support with maintenance development will continue as per the details in the ‘Product Support Lifecycle’ document published on the SCADA & MES Support site.
Q: What impact will this have on my existing Vijeo Citect Support agreement?
A: All existing Vijeo Citect Support agreements will continue to be honoured, with no changes to the agreement terms. Customers wishing to purchase new or renew existing Vijeo Citect Support agreements will be seamlessly transitioned onto the equivalent Citect SCADA Support agreements, synchronised with the future de-commercialization of Vijeo Citect part numbers.
Q: Will the SCADA & MES Support website be impacted?
A: There will be some minor modifications to the SCADA & MES Support website to simplify the customer experience and remove duplication that was inherent with the StruxureWare SCADA Expert Vijeo Citect and CitectSCADA dual brand strategy. All content and supporting documentation will be updated to reflect this change.
Q: Will this affect certification such as Citect SCADA Certified Expert, training courses, etc.?
A: There will be no impact to certifications, with existing Vijeo Citect certifications continuing to be recognised. As per the current practice, certified experts will need to sit an upgrade exam when it is made available to ensure they are certified for the Citect SCADA 2016 version. The latest training and certification information will continue to be published on the SCADA & MES Support website.
Q: Will I be able to use OPC Factory Server (OFS) with Citect SCADA 2016 as I have done so with Vijeo Citect versions?
A: Citect SCADA 2016 will be bundled with OFS at no additional cost, as it has been done so in the past with Vijeo Citect.
Q: I cannot upgrade all my entire SCADA system all at once. Will the new Citect SCADA 2016 version work with some of my older Vijeo Citect versions?
A: The brand migration will not have any impact on the online or offline upgrade process. Customers will need to follow the standard procedure for online upgrades. We recommend users refer to the Citect SCADA 2016 ‘Help’ documentation for relevant instructions and advice, and contact the Support group with any additional questions.
